Dropping this Saturday the Karhu x Moomins Aria 95 is perhaps the most Finnish piece of footwear that you’re ever likely to own. Inspired by their ski making origins the Karhu design team took inspiration from the book ‘Moominland Midwinter’ and the beautiful illustrations of skiing Moomins. It’s a charming tale of how Moomintroll overcomes isolation and explores a glittering new landscape with the help of the wise Too-ticky and the fearless Little My.
For this collab Karhu chose 90s mid runner the Aria 95 which features a monosock construction. That not only provides added comfort but is also a nod to the hill ono which Moomintroll was taught how to ski. Even though he explicitly stated “But no high hill”, his first attempt was still an unfortunate one. Featured as an all-over print the skiing Moomintroll appears on the monosock as well as on the heel whilst the orange and blue title on the original book cover have inspired the shoe colours. An additional touch sees the 75th anniversary Moomin logo featured on the footbed design.
The Karhu x Moomin Aria 95 will be launched on Saturday, the 22nd of February at KARHU.COM, the Karhu Concept Store in Helsinki and select premium retailers worldwide.
