LISBOA – A Tale of Two Cities

SONY DSC

lisboa-cover-pageLisboa: A Tale of Two Cities is a unique and beautifully put together ‘photo-documentary’ that captures a mercurial twenty-four hours of European street life, from divine dawn to dramatic dusk.

The title is a poignant reference to the two different sides of the city who bravely made the decision to redefine their spiralling drug abuse problem as a public health issue rather than just another crime. The resulting decriminalisation has resulted in a city quite unlike any other. Though the crime rates may have been drastically reduced, bemused tourists now find themselves snapping away at some of the most striking architecture in Europe whilst carefree drug dealers openly ply their trade in front of them. If you’re still confused as to how these two strata of society manage to successfully co-exist or if you just really appreciate great photos then you need to buy this brill book. At £10 a pop it’s an absolute bargain so maybe get yourself one of those nice egg custards and a glass of port too, just to get yourself in the mood. Saúde!
