Well what a day ‘day one’ at the SEEK trade show in Berlin has been, not only have my teenage years been exposed to the innocent public via an exhibition of my b&w photos they also get to hear my Northern nasal tones talking about them in between songs by the the and the Stone Roses as they look around the 4th floor, truly mental. The other floors of this magnificent old building however are filled with a sublime array of AW14 collections from some of my favourite labels. Though I’ve only scraped the surface and have yet to make my way around all the stalls, here is a brief overview of the stuff that has really taken my fancy today. The first thing that caught my eye was TSPTR’s proper nice gear many of which features Peanuts characters as they’ve only gone and done a deal with the world’s coolest beagle Snoopy. Alongside them I happened upon Russell Athletic who are back with a massive bang and for those of you who remember the brand when it was only available on US import (around the same time we were listening to House music from a similar location) you’ll be glad to hear that this new stuff is of exactly the same ilk i.e. really, really well made and just full of 1980s/Varsity goodness. Keeping on an Americana athletics tip, upstairs I spied the Todd Synder Champion collection which genuinely blew my reverse-weave obsessed mind, they even had a gilet in there, can you imagine how happy that made me? Very fucking happy. After bumping into my old mate Mikkel Rude the cherry on the menswear cake was provided up on the next tier (excuse the pun) over at the Our Legacy stand where I bore witness to a beautiful heavyweight Great Sweat (no man should be without an OL Great sweat), their equally cool ‘Super Light’ sweat and a sensational off-white version of their legendary Shield jacket, super strong stuff. I should also mention that Howlin, YMC, La Paz, BWGH + PUMA, & Universal Works were all looking pretty sharp but I really need to go back for a second look to report on their wares (and everyone else’s) properly. SEEK is on until this Thursday evening and we have a stall down on the ground floor as well as my photos up on the fourth so if you’re in Berlin I’ll see you down there!
