The Aigle Has Landed!

A recent arrival to the Shoreditch schmutter institution Present, Aigle is a bit like a French take on old Proper favourite Barbour. In fact if you were to give a Barbour a bit of an attitude, a beret and an appetite for fromage and fine wine then you’d probably end up with an Aigle jacket!

Founder Hiram Hutchinson initially set up the company as a manufacturer of waterproof boots with the name Aigle being a nod to the American bald eagle and his country’s. The seventies saw Aigle become closely associated with horse riding as French jockeys made it the boot of their choice before a refocusing of the company saw efforts become concentrated around making serious, hard-wearing outdoors gear. Shops in Paris and Japan soon followed and by the turn of the millennium there were more than 100 stores worldwide.

The brand’s logo was tweaked in 2005 but success rightly continued and the range of jackets at Present is a testament as to why. The Wolfcreek and Fishertail jackets are the favourites here at Proper HQ, offering a refreshing change from the 60/40 parkas that every man and his dog have been donning recently yet still looking smart as. What’s more, Aigle’s reasonable pricing means you won’t have to mortgage your gaff to get your grubby hands on it. You may even escape a bollocking from the missus!
