Favourite Fives: Luke Taylor

It’s fair to say that the world of streetwear is fairly accessible from a consumer perspective but what do you do if you want to work in the industry? You got to Streetwear jobs of course. Set up by our mate Luke Taylor it’s your one stop shop for finding or advertising a job within this vibrant world. Fortunately we managed to pull both of Luke’s phones away from his ears just long enough for him to give us his favourite five, check it out.

Favourite Book – It’s got to be Acid House by Irvine Welsh from 1999, this opened up a whole new world to me after reading it at about the age of 13. Not just the Glaswegian slang (ya ken pal ya wee schemie?) but the Scottish subcultures in it. A series of short stories with the likes of Coco Brice who is an LSD taking, die hard HIBS fan that gets struck by lightening whilst on a bad trip and turns into a middle class baby that talks! What more do you need?!

Favourite Clothing – If I had to name one particular style, think a Parisian teenager from the Banlieues from 1996. Lacoste tracksuits with mad 90s colour blocking and Nike Air Max trainers, proper scallie stuff! I remember speaking to a Lacoste wholesale rep a few years back and saying you need to bring back all the 90s tracksuit stuff and she just looked at me weird. Not long after Supreme did it for them! Love Stone Island, Carhartt WIP, Stussy, The North Face, BAPE, Palace & Patta to name a few.

Favourite Music – I’ve been into music for as long as I can remember. Had my first guitar when I was about 5 and started DJ’in bassline, garage, grime, 4×4, speed garage, jungle and classic house when I was about 14. Love all sorts of genres from 90s Garage to early noughties Grime, to 80s Chicago House. The last 5 years has been amazing for the OG fans of Grime & Garage and the UK urban music scene in general. Shout out to the pioneers like DJ Slimzee, Dizzee and Wiley. The original sidewinder sets from 2002 still get blasted out in the office on a daily basis.

Favourite Art – Got to be Street Art, absolutely love it and now its even coming to places like Rochdale in Greater Manchester! Any city I go to will usually involve a Street Art tour and there’s some pretty good apps to download to find the best murals out there. We’re out in Berlin again in a few weeks so we will probably do another little tour at some point. The passion comes from the street culture associated with it, tagging trains and buses as a teenager etc.

Favourite Food – The question I always ask people is, “If you were on death row what would your last meal be?”. I suppose it depends on the time of the day and your mood etc. But to be fair I always love a good curry with all the trimmings, the hotter the better! Obviously you need a few lagers with that!
