adidas Originals and Ajax Amsterdam celebrate the 70s

Remember when only a smallish section of society was into football, and an even smaller section of them knew Ajax was pronounced Eye-Axe (sort of)? Well, a decade before that, said football team inflicted serious Amsterdamage across Europe, bringing home what is now the Champions League thricefold, between ’71 and ’73.

To celebrate this period of dominance, adidas Originals and Ajax Football Club have just presented acollaborative collection. This isn’t just a half-arsed reissue of replica shirts though, but a more considered concept, inspired by the 70s as a whole with archival design references coming through via additional garments and a new Samba shoe.

A lot of focus is falling on the Samba right now and adidas are naturally here for that. This the collection’s version is designed with a “Crème” hue throughout, while speckles of red are used across the lateral Three Stripe and tongue and heel tab branding. Words from the club anthem are added to the sock liner and the coordinates of Ajax’s former stadium, De Meer also feature inside.

Have a nose at the range in more detail at the adidas website. It’s smart isn’t it?
