Merrell 1TRL’s new campaign shines a light on the pigeon keepers of Brooklyn

Merrell’s 1TRL line continues to blaze a trail, which is fitting when you think about it.

“The Trail That Came Before,” features the pigeon keepers of Brooklyn. The campaign is a human story that celebrates the unique and age-old subculture that connects people in the heart of the city to the wilderness. If Mike Tyson kept pigeons, anyone can.

As cities become increasingly overcrowded, those that inhabit them are constantly looking for new ways to connect with the outdoors and the natural world. Whether that be a modest window box featuring low-maintenance houseplants or something more involved, for example pigeon keeping. It’s a tradition that dates back thousands of years and is often associated with more rural landscapes, or at least in the UK, in the suburban back gardens of Dads and Grandads.

It was to this backdrop Merrell 1TRL decided to photograph classics like the Moab Mesa and the Eagle Luxe – two new silhouettes born from the Merrell archive, reimagined for 1TRL.

Available now in unisex sizi ng the Mesa utilises 100% recycled laces, webbing, breathable mesh lining and footbed cover with an EVA foam footbed and Vibram® TC5+ outsole technology that delivers all – round grip, traction and durability on uneven surfaces and tough terrain. Also retur ning this season is the Eagle Luxe GTX 1TRL, introduced in FW22 in a similar vein to the Mesa, the Eagle Luxe offers a forward – thinking take on an archival staple. Featuring a GORE – TEX® waterproof membrane, a suede leather and mesh upper, and an inside zip per for easy on & off, this season’s iteration is dressed in summer – ready colourways of Herb and Incense and is also available in unisex sizing.
