New Puma and Nanamica Partnership Fuses Fashion with Function

Meshing the stylishness of fashion with the pragmatism of function, long-established footwear kings PUMA has worked with renowned Japanese outdoorists Nanamica to create something that takes from the past and imagines the future.

Their capsule reimagines the concept of workwear with a clean, contemporary aesthetic, rooted in functionality and comfort. Subtle military influences are evident too, which helps everything remain in keeping with the DNA of Nanamica whose name translates to “House of the Seven Seas”.

As part of the collection, the iconic PUMA Clyde is reimagined by Nanamica, featuring a shroud design that conceals the eye stays, lending the shoe a functional and clean aesthetic. Coming in two colourways, a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane features on both, with a premium leather upper rounding things off.

Steeped in Japanese sensibilities, the accompanying apparel features a Woven Coat, which boasts Cordura fabric, a two-way zipper, an array of utilitarian pockets, and a rubber PUMA x Nanamica badge. Two PUMA x Nanamica Hoodies are included in the collection as well, fitted with quarter-zip closures and crafted from 450-gram French terry fabric. The capsule is completed by cotton twill Pants and essential striped T-shirts with a distinctly nautical theme.

As brands continue to embrace their modern role as storytellers, this two-pronged tale from Puma and Nanamica engages with Oliver Hooson, himself an accomplished digital raconteur.

Oli indulges his interest in the outdoors via some coastal exploration in Dorset. From Chapmans Pool to the Anvil Lighthouse, his journey includes a pit stop at Square and Compass, where pasties fueled further exploration, before concluding with a stylish chain ferry ride to the mainland. This maritime meander feels particularly in keeping with Nanamica’s own appreciation of the sea, via its ‘One Ocean, All Lands’ motto.

In all, it’s another landmark love-in for Puma, following their ace tennis-themed collab with Noah recently. In Nanamica they’ve found another respected independent brand that brings a fresh perspective on one of the world’s most celebrated sports brands.

The latest from PUMA x Nanamica will be available from 19th August 2023, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected accounts worldwide.
