Reception drop a Jazz, Blues and Soul-themed summer capsule

Our pals at Reception have just released their latest Summer capsule collection in tribute to a Tokyo bar.

‘Jazz, Blues & Soul’ bar is in Shibuya-Tokyo houses a vast array of vintage and contemporary jazz records, numbering over 10,000. It’s a labour of love for the hard working Kobayashi-san, who runs the place alone, serving coffee and tea during the day and beer and spirits by night, while playing records. This level of pride and dedication serves to inspire many, including Reception.

Following on from their exploration of iconic venues and eateries around the world, JBS gets the reception treatment. Far from a license deal or a cynical cash in, this is a genuine capsule which was created in partnership with Tokyo artist Mayumi Yamase, with pastel shades lifted from the bar’s decor.

The ‘hands-on’ nature of vinyl records is reflected in the painted-style prints, while a slipmat comes in baby blue and white watercolour – creating a blown-up polka dot print that adorns bowling shirts and pants.

For the lookbook, the brand asked photographer friends on the ground in Tokyo to visit the iconic JBS bar,
meeting with it’s founder and owner Kobayashi-San. He appears throughout within the space, wearing tees
emblazoned with his namesake bar. Grainy portraiture is mixed with the collection’s artwork – creating a dynamic
image set that echoes the soft tone of jazz.

Reception is available now at Wellgosh Launches.
