I tend to wear coats with hoods because I’m a formulaic twat who grew up in the 90s. The hood doesn’t even have to be super functional, it’s all about how it sits on the shoulders and around the neck. Hoods are tremendous IMVVVVHO.
However…
I’m 40 this year, I have a son who will be 16 in a few months and it’s about time I stopped pretending I’m young. I did an age test thing to do with music over the weekend and it reckoned me to be 19-25 years old, which is all well and good, but why have I started getting hairy ears? White hairs too. It’s bang out of order. It’s about time I sacked off hooded jackets and pretending to be a scally isn’t it? Or maybe it’s nothing to do with age at all and I just need to change things up a bit.
Brands like Ullac only pop up every few years I reckon. Good clothing with smart reference points, run by people who aren’t beset with 1990s business mentalities, with a focus on doing things well and being authentic. It shouldn’t be any more complicated than that should it? Brands should be very easy to like, not a chore.
Unless they sell a chore jacket, then it can be a chore but also a pleasure. I can see myself self-consciously wearing one of these later this year.
