So, we’ve talked about their Action Mugs more than once. This site is usually dominated by shoes, coats, that kind of thing, but really, if you like nice coats then you surely like nice other things? Unless you’re one of those bedspread casuals you see on instagram.
Well, even if you’re strictly one of those lads who just spends lots of money on a Saturday Best, it’s fine because the makers of mint mugs have gone and done some proper clothing too. This stuff will be big, you mark my words.
Based mostly on the South Coast (of England, obvs) Uniformes Generale have a right to call themselves French, given they’re as close as you can get to being French without being French. The name sounds French anyway. Their tees and teacups piqued our interest some considerable time ago, but it’s the new collection that has us quite excited, while simultaneously pretending not to be. They’re a hint of Norse Projects but not so much that you’d go “Oh bloody hell it’s too much like Norse Projects”. There’s a sprinkling of early streetwear without you going “Oh God, it’s 2014, LIVE IN THE NOW!”. I could make lots of other comparisons and describe it as a heady mix of blah blah blah, but the truth is, it’s its own thing and the culmination of 20-odd years of varied experience in British sportswear, streetwear and just clothing and stuff. I did an interview with the designer today. It lasted 93 minutes. It’ll be in the next mag.
There are some pictures below that say a lot more than I can. There’s a pop up shop thingy opening at Boxpark in that Shoreditch in early September, and the collection launches properly shortly before that. You should keep your eyes peeled.
