Topo Designs Holiday Collection

What’s that thing called when you have a song stuck in your head? Earworm? Sounds painful. But right now, having a 6 year old son obsessed with Rocky Balboa means various feelgood fighting tunes are embedded in my brain. Eye of the Tiger is a given. Also, that one that goes “Take it back, do-do do-doo” and obviously the main Rocky tune which I could look up the name of but can’t be bothered.

What does this have to do with Topo Designs and their archetypal Hikerdelic steez, you may wonder?

Well the song stuck in my head since earlier today is the one Apollo Creed enters the ring to just before Ivan Drago punches his head into the middle of next fortnight. James Brown’s Living in America. You know the one. An upbeat message punctuated by lots of “Ow!” and “Yahaha” noises.

I’ve decided my subconscious is trying to tell me something. While there’s plenty I’d sorely miss if I left these shores, that earworm is nagging away at me to go and live in America. That must be what it’s about. Either that or I’m obsessing far too much over American outerwear. Let’s face it, it’s probably the latter. As if I could go more than 48 hours without a genuine chippy tea.

If you saw our last issue (now sold out, not bad eh?) you’ll have seen that Topo Designs and their uncommonly ace range of backpacks made us buzz more than a whole army of bees. And likewise, their holiday collection does the same.

Launched just as their Thanksgiving turkey has begun to settle, this is the perfect package to obsess about as you take tentative steps to write your list to Santa/Mum/your Mrs. All affordable in comparison to many of the US brands you commonly find over here, and yet far more limited. We fully expect Topo to make great strides this side of the Atlantic in time, but for now, anything you buy is going to be pretty individual. Bumping into someone wearing the Fishers Tee while drinking out of their waterbottle is less likely than you scooping this weekends lottery. And yet far easier to achieve. Just head to their website.

As presumably the only Stockport-based proponent of their Light Daypack I’m speaking from experience. I’ll not bore you with a rundown on each of the items that make up the holiday collection, except to say most of my posts this week have been short and sweet. If you’ve made it this far you’ll know the extra length of this post shows just how into this stuff I am. Maybe you are too?
