Regular readers of this here website will know we’re quite pally with Portuguese online retailer Newfangle Clothing. Ramiro’s shop hasn’t been going for years, in fact they’ve been going for just a year today, but has firmly established itself in our little cartel of places on the web to look.
As part of the ongoing development of Newfangle, Ramiro recently commissioned a design agency called 88 to create a new logo, and this is what they came up with.
Like all good logos, it’s not just a finger in the air and a ‘that’ll do’, there’s genuine reasoning behind it. In this case, the Portuguese seafaring tradition is referenced. The logo is inspired by the 13th century vessel favoured by Portuguese seamen, the Caravela. The triangular sail and Portuguese were present in every Caravela, and now they’re standing proudly in the identity of Newfangle too.
We reckon it’d look smart as a logo on clothing too.
Anyway, the final word goes to Ramiro, with a pretty profound statement but one that makes perfect sense.
“As our navigators were adventurous, brave, successful and sailed around the world, we aim to do the same: take risks, discover and create new things and share our ideas with the world.”
Having started 12 months ago with just 5 brands onboard, they’ve since doubled that to ten. Don’t bet against things growing from here, either.
