HANON x Diadora Aberdeen

The trainer of the year awards might well be a thing, and if it is these should be scooping some sort of prize. These should be necking copious amounts of free champagne. These should dancing into the early morn to the sound of 80s disco. These are winners. Get them on my feet.

To mark Diadora’s 70th birthday, they’ve team up with HANON to create the ‘Aberdeen’ – a 1979 court shoe that’s been reimagined in a material that I could sleep on.

Often referred to as ‘the Granite City’, HANON’s hometown of Aberdeen earned its nickname from a period throughout the 18th to mid 20th century when the city’s buildings incorporated locally quarried grey granite.

Handcrafted in Italy at Diadora’s original factory in Caerano di San Marco, this edition of the Aberdeen draws inspiration from the famous granite of the city as the silhouette is executed in a mix of grey tones and silver hits whilst offset red and white accents and finished with a rich black outsole.

Utilising only the most premium materials, a super soft calfskin nubuck upper is offset with rugged teasel suede on the toe in silver grey, a kangaroo leather heel tab, a double-layer side stripe which features kangaroo leather layered with ostrich leather, and lastly, a pin-prick perforated kangaroo leather tongue.

Attention to detail is applied via a silver print emboss treatment at each heel with ‘ABERDEEN’ on the right shoe, and our flame logo on the left shoe, whilst dual branding is featured on each tongue by way of a leather patch, and also on the heel tab via a silver print emboss.

Both the lining and tongue backer are finished in a white and fiery red calfskin leather with pin-prick perforation, and the insole comes in dual-branded printed textile base with a stitched calfskin top layer completed with embossed HANON branding.

The hanon x Diadora ‘Aberdeen’ has been manufactured to a strict edition of 200 pairs and this shoe will be sold only by HANON from April 7th 2018. Each pair will come in a custom box with dustbag, a special hangtag, and four lace sets.

Absolutely well into house plants.
