Brave the Polar Night with Karhu

September is here and Karhu is busy preparing for the Autumn Equinox with the release of the all-new Polar Night pack.

Inspiration for this range comes from regions in the far north of the brand’s native Finland. This is the land of the midnight sun in summer, but when winter comes around, the sun is notable by its almost total absence. It is in these areas closest to the North Pole where the nights are darkest and last the longest.

When the day never gives way to night, the body clock gets stuck and it can be difficult to differentiate between midday and midnight. Inhabitants of these northern regions engage in a variety of communal activities to maintain a firm grasp on reality, maintain a routine and avoid a state of mind known as “polar madness”.

The care and attention given to seeking metaphorical light against the perennial shade brings these communities closer together and makes the incoming season of the Midnight Sun that much sweeter. People need other people to be truly fulfilled.

The photoshoot for the Polar Night pack was conducted by Justine Leenarts and creative director, Lisa Anne Stuyfzand. Their creation seamlessly combines product-specific imagery with unique mood photography to evoke an impending sense of sanity-stressing polar madness.

Sometimes embracing the darkness is all we can do and Finnish natives Karhu are better placed than any footwear brand than any to truly convey this.
